Thanks for Helping Get the Energy Bill Passed
Dear Fellow Advocates –
Thank you for all the calls and letters. We have an energy bill.
Senator Ensign was one of the 86 senators who voted to pass the energy bill this afternoon.
In order to pass, the Senate bill was stripped of many of the provisions that the House passed last week. Its key feature is fuel efficiency standard of 35 mpg – no small feat. There are also appliance and building efficiency standards that will make a real difference. You can see the message below from the Sierra Club’s legislative director, Debbie Sease.
It didn’t give us a renewable electricity standard nor did it take subsidies away from oil and redirect them into renewable energy technologies. Senator Reid promises to work on these important measures after the first of the year.
Celebrate the victory. Thank you.
