Waiver (Leaders Only)

Range of Light Group Outings

All outings include conservation education activities! All Phone numbers are 760 unless otherwise noted. CST 2087766-40. Registration as a seller of travel does not constitute approval by the State of California.

Bring water, lunch and snacks, layered clothing, appropriate hiking footwear, hat, sun-screen, bug spray & desired personal items such as cameras, binoculars, and hiking poles.  Contact leader for permission to bring your dog. Abominable weather cancels.

Short Mammoth Lakes area hikes; back before dark; emphasis on local history, natural history, conservation issues etc. dependent upon leader’s interests; all skill levels welcome, including beginners. Meet 5:30pm Mammoth Union Bank. Bring water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, camera.
Wear substantial shoes or boots; dress in layers. Contact leader for permission to bring your dog.
Abominable weather cancels.

August 31 (Sunday), NO OUTING

September 4 (Thursday), Crystal Lake. This loop hike takes us up to a high, dramatic lake ringed with lodgepole, whitebark pines, hemlocks and firs.  We will return via a beautiful stream. Well-behaved dogs OK.  PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE!  Meet Mammoth Lakes Union Bank @ 4:30pm

September 7 (Sunday), Benetteville. Hike in the Mine Creek drainage to Shell, Fantail, and Spuller Lakes with a stop at Cord Wood Ridge. Meet 8:00am ML Union Band. dogs ok, Contact Mary K  (760-934-0356), mkp@npgcable.com

September 11 (Thursday) - Laurel Pond Walk. Laurel Pond contains purified Mammoth Lakes city water, at the base of Laurel Mountain and only 15 minutes away near Sherwin Creek Rd. off Hwy 395.  The pond is a magnet for shore birds including avocets and sandpipers. It is framed by yellow rabbitbrush.  The walk around the pond is 2 miles.  Well-behaved dogs OK.  PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE.  Meet Mammoth Lakes Union Bank @ 4:30pm.  

September 13 (Saturday), Bird Outing. Local bird experts lead a morning of birding in the Mammoth Lakes area. Look for resident birds, migrants, and there may be some surprises. Location to be determined pending weather conditions and bird activity. Meet 7:45am ML Union Bank. Binoculars necessary. September 14 (Sunday), Horton Lake. (10,000’), 6 mile RT hike along old mining road, moderate, possible optional hike to Upper Horton Lake, 2200’ gain, trailhead passed Buttermilk Country, Meet 8am Mammoth Union Bank. September 18 (Thursday), TJ/Barrett Lakes. This easy loop trail hike starts at Lake George and swings around Lake Mary. 4mi RT. Well- behaved dogs OK. PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE.  Meet Mammoth Lakes Union Bank @ 4:30pm.

September 21 (Sunday), Ediza Lake from Agnew Meadows. 13.5mi rt, 1225’ gain.   Trail between Shadow Lake and Ediza is especially beautiful with several overlook areas above the creek, please bring $7 (per adult) for shuttle bus.   Dogs ok, a leash and muzzle are required for shuttle bus. http://www.nps.gov/depo/planyourvisit/feesandreservations.htm  Meet 8am Mammoth Union Bank, Contact Melissa (760-937-0499), melissas1@verizon.net

September 25 (Thursday), Mammoth Creek Walk. Mammoth Creek is especially beautiful in the early evening! Well-behaved dogs OK.  PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE.  Meet Mammoth Lakes Union @ 4:30pm.

September 27 (Saturday), Hike from Pine Creek to Mosquito Flats with car shuttle, 12mi, 3000’ gain, strenuous, no dogs, Meet 7am Mosquito Flats parking area,  Contact Cindy (908-763-1708), candj@schat.com.

September 28 (Sunday), Lyell Canyon in Yosemite National Park.  This 14mi RT hike along the John Muir Trail has a gentle grade. Start in Tuolumne Meadows, follow JMT towards Donahue Pass passing through meadows along Lyell Fork of the Tuolumne River.  At lunch, the hike leader will read excerpts from John Muir's work. Meet 8am at the Mobil Station in Lee Vining. Look for Jeff's Toyota Tacoma. No dogs. Space limited to 15 hikers.
