McCarran Ranch Hike. Come visit the historic McCarran Ranch, located on the Truckee River, 15
miles downstream from the urban areas of Reno/Sparks. It is now a preserve under the care of the Nature Conservancy, which is restoring the area to its natural state; including returning the River to its original course complete with meanders, riffles, and oxbow wetlands. Tour of the Terraced Hills. We will hike and drive the area north of Pyramid Lake, taking in splendid views of the lake and surrounding peaks. Learn about the tribe's effort to harness geothermal power in this area. Trip will be accompanied by geologist knowledgeable about this potential. Trip Limit. DL. Buckland Station south of Silver Springs Day Hike. This 8 mile loop day hike on flat ground will syart at historic c Buckland Station, proceed downstream along the Carson River enjoying the riparian habitat. Return on segment of the Pony Express Trail route. Learn some history of the area. Option to tour the remains of Fort Churchill on your own after the hike. ND. Virginia Mountains Service Trip. Here's a great way to make a difference for Earth Day! Come on out and help us clean up trash in the desert environment near Pyramid Lake. All you need are some work gloves and a willingness to spend a couple of hours cleaning up after the shooters who leave debris scattered in the desert. We'll supply the trash bags, rakes, shovels, and lunch for everyone who volunteers. Afterward, a short hike in a nearby location will be offered for participants who are interested. Earth Day. Join the Great Basin Group of the Sierra Club in celebrating one of our favorite days of the year at Idewild Park between 11:00-4:00 PM. Activities include musical entertainment, arts and crafts, food, and all kinds of ideas on how to reduce our "footprint" on this earth. Be sure to drop by our booth and check out our books on hiking trails, flora and fauna in our area, and a super selection of Sierra Club note cards. Remember to leave "fido" at home for this event. Pine Nut Range: Illinois Cyn & Upper Eldorado Cyn. Springtime in the Pine Nuts can be delightful. We'll hike the trail down Illinois Cyn from the Sunrise Pass Rd. If we do a shuttle we will then hike up Eldorado Cyn on a dirt road along the creek for the short shuttle back. About 11-12 miles of easy walking. We will also learn about some area issues.
