Klondyke Meadows Cross-Country Ski. This will be a beginner XC ski near Martis peak. We will ski on fairly flat terrain to a nice lunch spot. From there we can practice our turns on some small hills. Great Basin Group general meeting. Beauty, serenity and the restoration of native riparian ecosystems are the focus of this evening's presentation. Nature Conservancy's Desert Rivers Project has been doing some excellent work to consolidate land holdings and return riparian areas to their native state along the Truckee and Carson Rivers. Michael Cameron will present a slide show of some of these activities and talk about the impact of their efforts in light of the recent flooding along these rivers. Come and find out where you can go to visit these areas and how you can volunteer to help with the restoration projects.

Hot Springs & Cold Nights. Soak in a hot spring & camp out during the near-full moon. Expect cold weather. Two hot springs and familiarization with the Black Rock area and Gerlach. Learn about local history and natural history. Visit the site of the proposed Sempra coal plan and a local art studio. Bad weather cancels. Trip limit 10. ND. Leader: David Book (843-6443).
MARCH 12 (SUNDAY)
Boca Hill Snowshoe. We will skirt Boca Lake, east of Truckee then move up toward Boca Hill and hopefully get to the top where we'll lunch. At the top we can learn about some of the history of the area as well as enjoy the spectacular views. This is an intermediate snowshoe. Total elevation gain 1,000' and 6 miles total. Churchill Butte, near Silver Springs. Scale Churchill Butte, overlooking historic Ft. Churchill, emigrant wagon train routes, portions of ancient and modern Lake Lahontan and a portion of the Pony Express trail. Learn a bit of history of this area. Full Moon Snowshoe. Snowshoe under the light of a full moon. Destination will be determined by weather conditions. Learn about flora in the area we visit. Plan to be out until 10-11:00 PM. Saghen Hills Cross Country Ski. We will ski over rolling hills to the best lunch spot north of Lake Tahoe. From that sight there are easy to moderate down hills to play on or practice your tele turns. If there is time we may continue on to an overview of Carpenter Valley or ski back down. Snowshoe in the Meadows. Try snowshoeing - it's low impact and burns lots of calories. Join us for a leisurely trek through the Meadows at Mt. Rose for a beginning snowshoe. Forestdale Basin. Cross-country ski for intermediate or better skiers to the Forestdale Creek Basin near Carson Pass. 7-8 mile round trip, up to 1,000' ft. elevation gain. Mormon Dan Peak Bag in the Black Rock. Climb Mormon Dan for a great view of the Black Rock Desert. Leave at 8:00, dinner at Bruno's in Gerlach.
