Skedaddle Scurry. We'll visit the Skedaddle Range east of Honey Lake near the CA-NV border. Here we'll view parts of the Skedaddle WSA. Wild, remote, and seldom visited, this area has interesting canyons and ridges. Learn about wilderness status for this area. This is a moderate hike at 8 miles, and less than 2,000 ft. elevation gain, but all off trail. DOK. Leaders: David von Seggern (303-8461), Ken Hayes (626-7873). Moderate.
December 3 (Sunday)
Stroll, Supper, and Slides. We'll take a stroll on the Steamboat Ditch Trail in northwest Reno. Walk will be about 4 miles with very little elevation gain. Learn about the local flora or fauna while we are out. Afterward, plan on a potluck at the leader's home and watch slides/photos of recent outings. Join us for any part of this outing. Historic Virginia City Flume Trail Hike. Hike along a portion of the route of the circa 1870 woodbox flume which brought water from the Carson Range to Virginia City. Learn about some of the history of this area. Hike is apx. 14 miles, 1,500 ft. elevation gain. ND. Leader: T A Taro (530-2935). Moderate.

Leader's Choice Half-Day Hike. The location of the hike will be determined by the weather. We'll meet at 11:00 AM and hike for about 3 hours for apx. 5 miles, possible 1,000 ft. gain. Ice-Skating and Dinner. Meet at the Reno downtown ice-rink at the corner of Virginia St. and 1st. St. at 5:30 PM for outdoor ice-skating. There is a $5 admission plus $2 for skate rental. At 7 PM we'll leave for the Contrada Cafe restaurant at the Sienna Casino (across the street). ND. Leader: Richard Arbib (685-2600).
December 15 (Friday)
Annual Holiday Party. All members welcome to join the festivities at Horseman's Park. We'll begin around 6:30 for socializing and dinner will start around 7:00 PM. Please bring a potluck item to share and BYOB. We will provide all the plates, utensils, napkins, water, and soda. There will be a variety of awards toward the end of dinner and an entertaining film that is guaranteed to send you home in stitches. Directions: Take McCarren West to Skyline Dr. and go east. Continue down the hill, just past the fire station, and make a right on Pioneer. Horseman's Park is on the right hand side. There is a large parking area in front of the building. Carson River Railroads near Mound House. Hike along the scenic Carson River Canyon; learn about the railroads of the Comstock era. Portions of the hike are cross-country. Hike is about 12 miles and has under 1,000 ft. of elevation gain. Vehicle shuttle necessary and four wheel drives will be needed. ND. Leader: T A Taro (530-2935). Moderate.

Rock Outcrop Past Tamarack Peak. Short hike/or snowshoe with exceptional views from a 9,900 ft. vantage close to Reno. About 5 miles of hiking/snowshoes RT. Ascent of 1,000 ft. small rock caves at top. Full view of Lake Tahoe, Incline, and Tamarack. Learn about places to hike in and around the Mt. Rose Wilderness. Will demonstrate an easy hot meal at 9,900 ft. DOK. Leader: Gary Hanneman (746-0771). Moderate.

Outings Meeting. Members interested in leading or learning how to colead outings are encouraged to attend this meeting. We will be planning outings for February and March. These are great months for snowshoe trips, hikes in the desert, or easy walks on the fringes of the Truckee Meadows. We'll discuss how to write-up trips that are both educational and will increase participation. Bring a potluck dish to share. All beverages, plates, utensils, napkins....provided. Since this is the holiday season, we'll have an optional gift exchange, please bring your gift wrapped and don't spend more than $10. This is just meant to add a little fun and frivolity toward the end of our meeting. Meeting will be at Holly's home. Call 331-7488 for directions or details.

Churchill Butte, near Silver Springs. Scale Churchill Butte, overlooking historic Fort Churchill, emigrant wagon train routes, portions of ancient and modern Lake Lahontan and part of the Pony Express trail. You're sure to learn a bit of the local history. Hike is about 7 miles and has 3,000 ft. of gain. ND. Leader: T A Taro (530-2935). Moderately strenuous.
